(the following is the opening of a brief presentation that my grandmother made to the local historical society in 1964)
"Greetings for 'our towns' day
Thomas Wolfe said you can't go home again
But then of course he referred to men
For here you are, come what may
To help us celebrate 'our towns' day.
We'll do away with airs and graces
And just enjoy your welcome faces.
I can say without a doubt
You'll always find the latch-string out
So on with the chatter
And on with the fun
A royal greeting
To every one."
