While Packer is certainly no fan of Donald Trump, most of this article is an even handed look at the evolution of the Republican and Democratic parties over the last 40 years. As one would expect from the Pulitzer Prize winning writer, it is both well done and entertaining. It is recommended.

As incisive and valuable a piece of political analysis as has ever appeared in a popular magazine. Every Democratic Party operative needs to read this to understand what really happened in the 2017 presidential election. The article deserves much wider discussion, as it addresses so much that is driving our current political divide.
